We always hoped for something surprising to come of Ibiza... constructing a house on this island represents an opportunity to offer something out of the ordinary... the occasion to play with different options that we don’t have in other places ... more over... this plot of land is situated in a unique place, magical to the island...
We believe it is important that the house, in this place, does not oppose the landscape... but that it is able to include it... we do not want to oppose an interior volume and an exterior space... making the space "in between" the pieces very important...
The house comes from the relationship between it’s pieces... these pieces do no touch each other, letting the landscape and the life of the house intertwine... at the same time we are protected but in contact with the exterior...
The house sets out to be like a playground, able to be continuously modified... the pieces act as pavilions whose use and activities can vary in time... the position of each piece attributes to specific qualities in respect to the landscape and the rest of the pieces... from north to south, towards the mountains or the sea, each volume expresses unique characteristics...
The furniture is light and simple... it moves with the lives of its inhabitants... one bedroom can become a studio for painting, a living area becomes a pavilion for a party in the middle of the garden... the house is able to be multiple houses... surprising its inhabitants each day...
It seems fundamental that the pieces are continuously related to the scale of the landscape but also with the scale of the inhabitants... it is these pieces which configure a domestic garden, a private space, almost the most important room of the house, and at the same time all the pieces allow us to conserve contact with the vast landscape around us... the sunset can be visible from whichever space...
In fact the whole project proposes a unique fundamental strategy: a permeability controlled towards the surroundings... each piece is constructed like a device able to clarify its permeability, the density of its edges... this also signifies a clear level of privacy of each space, being modulated in time... curtains, screens, brise-soleil, many "layers" can separate or join the exterior with the interior of each piece... the space, one moment intimate and personal can be completely revealed in another moment...
We believe that a house is not a box... we would like that one does not have to necessarily look through a crystal and frame to see the landscape... this house is an open scene...
