The general urban plan “ PII Calchi Taeggi” includes three distinct public services materialized in a buildingThe Don Gnocchi assisted living residential center, the CAM Pavilion and the day care. Of the three, the building program for CAM is the one that has ignited the most professional debate among the Milan Government Administration. The buildings functional program has yet to be clearly defined.
In this way, the Pavillion project—very conditioned by the guidelines imposed by the Administration, is placed in a lateral position with respect to the grand public plaza which it intends to animate. Finally, we propose a grand cover, which defines the scale of the public space, under which there would be various covered spaces yet in continuation and permeable to the public space.
The element that characterizes the project is a grand cover of irregular profile which cover the entire plaza, generating a large porch which coincides with the connecting walkway between the public park and Via Bisceglie— a principal urban axis. The structure of the grand cover is a multi-layered wood resting oninternal an external tresle pilars of minimal dimension.
