The Don Gnocchi assisted living center, is one of the principal public services created by the private operators within the urban development plan "PII Calchi Taeggi". It is an assistance program for the elderly who are in need of supervised care. Operating as a service similar to a residential community, it has been placed on the border of the Urban Park of the new creation.
The project makes the most of the difference in levels between the topographical height of the park and the height of the new urban axis, The Viale, in order to configure a building in two “stratums”: the service program and lower level access and the “multi-use” program on the upper two levels. The upper levels lean on the “topographical” base to define an area, a secluded space that is inspired by the cloister typologies typical of the architecture of religious assisted living/social facilities.
In contrast to the more public and organized character of the exterior facing The Viale, corresponds a soft internal facade, permeable to light and open to park views. The scale of the windowtakes on a strategic value to confer quality to the habitat of each room: perforations allow the entry of controlled light thanks to the inclination of the planes of the external walls and the presence of colored ceramic surfaces.
